Gallery Description

Flowers are another subject that I love to photograph. They come in many shapes, sizes, and colours and are a wonder to behold. My favourite flowers to photograph are the Prairie Crocus and the many different varieties of native Manitoba orchids. Most of the flower images on these pages are taken close to home.

I enjoy trying different techniques when photographing flowers to create different feelings and impressions. Sometimes when it’s windy, I’ll try slow shutter speeds to create a feeling of motion…this works well with fields of flax in bloom. Sometimes I’ll use multiple exposures, one in and one out of focus, to create a feeling of softness. I like to use a large aperture to create a shallow depth of field… a technique known as ‘selective focus’. I also love to get close and create intimate, abstract views of flowers. The possibilities are many.
